Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo is facing a third impeachment motion after a group of MCAs filed a motion in the County Assembly on Monday, citing gross misconduct, abuse of office, and irregular appointments.
The motion was tabled by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere, who accused the governor of violating the Constitution and other laws. “I wish to give notice of motion for the removal of Honourable Nyaribo, the governor of Nyamira County, from office by way of impeachment on the following grounds: gross violation of the Constitution of Kenya and abuse of office,” Matwere stated.
Governor Nyaribo has previously survived two impeachment attempts. In September 2024, he narrowly escaped removal by a single vote, with 22 MCAs voting in favour of his ouster and 12 opposing. A year earlier, in 2023, 16 MCAs voted for his removal, falling short of the two-thirds majority required.
The county boss is also under investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over alleged involvement in a Ksh382 million irregular tender. In October, EACC conducted raids on his homes and offices, as well as those of senior county officials in Nyamira, Kisii, and Nairobi counties.
The County Assembly Speaker adjourned proceedings until Tuesday, November 18, when members will reconvene to debate the impeachment motion. The developments mark a tense political period in Nyamira, with the governor’s fate hanging in the balance amid ongoing corruption investigations.
