Nyandarua County has unveiled plans for an extensive sensitization campaign aimed at promoting coffee farming as part of its agricultural diversification strategy.
Governor Kiarie Badilisha announced that the awareness campaign will kick off by the end of November, marking a major step in transforming the county’s farming landscape.
Speaking in Matumi Village, Githioro Ward, Kipipiri Sub-county, where he toured the coffee farm of local farmer Solomon Njenga, the governor said the initiative will encourage farmers to embrace high-income crops suited to Nyandarua’s climate.
Badilisha noted that the county has already introduced crops such as apples, avocados, and pyrethrum, which are proving to be profitable alternatives to potatoes Nyandarua’s traditional cash crop.
“My administration will continue investing in adaptable, high-value crops to improve farmer incomes and position Nyandarua as a leading agricultural hub,” he affirmed.
Githioro MCA Isaac Mbae commended the move, pledging continued Assembly support for policies that enhance productivity and sustainability.
Local farmers expressed optimism that the shift to coffee could open new opportunities for agribusiness, secure better returns, and strengthen Nyandarua’s rural economy.
