Odhiambo hands LSK leadership to Kanjama

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has officially transitioned to new leadership after Faith Odhiambo handed over the presidency to Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama during the Society’s 2026 Annual General Meeting held in Machakos.

The ceremony, attended by legal practitioners from across the country, marked the end of Odhiambo’s two-year tenure as the 51st president and the beginning of Kanjama’s term as the 52nd president of the Society. The incoming 2026–2028 Council was also sworn in during the event.

In her farewell message to members, Odhiambo described serving as LSK president as the greatest honour of her life, reflecting on a journey that began with a nationwide campaign to earn the trust of the legal fraternity.

She noted that her leadership was guided by a clear agenda focused on restoring the dignity of the legal profession, strengthening the Society’s voice in defending the rule of law, and ensuring stability within its structures.

Odhiambo said that over the past two years, the Society had remained committed to these goals, navigating a challenging environment while upholding constitutional values. She acknowledged that the legal space had at times been turbulent, requiring the Society to take bold positions in defence of justice.

She credited members of the Society for standing firmly behind its leadership, noting that their support was crucial in advancing its mandate. According to Odhiambo, the collective strength of the membership enabled the Society to respond effectively to emerging challenges.

The outgoing president also praised members for their dedication and willingness to make sacrifices in pursuit of shared goals. She highlighted the importance of unity, saying it had played a key role in strengthening the Society and positioning it for future growth.

Odhiambo further commended the diverse ideas and perspectives within the Society, noting that the contributions of members helped shape solutions to complex challenges facing the legal sector.

As she handed over leadership, she urged members to maintain unity and support the incoming leadership team, emphasising the need for continuity and collective effort.

Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama takes over the reins after securing victory in a competitive election held in February 2026. He now assumes leadership at a time when the Society continues to play a critical role in safeguarding the rule of law and advocating for justice.

The transition marks a new chapter for the LSK, with expectations high on the incoming leadership to build on past achievements and steer the organisation forward.
