Members of Parliament allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have appealed to party leader Oburu Odinga to urgently step in and address rising internal tensions threatening party cohesion.
Speaking at Parliament Buildings on Monday, lawmakers led by Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo cautioned ODM leaders against public spats and inflammatory remarks. The appeal follows growing fallout involving ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, alongside separate disputes pitting Embakasi East MP Babu Owino against Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s ally, Alai.
The legislators called for an immediate internal mediation process to restore discipline and public confidence in the party. They also demanded investigations into incidents of political violence, including claims that a Kileleshwa MCA brandished a firearm at Babu Owino and the alleged assault of Lamu Woman Representative Muthoni Marubu.
The MPs warned that failure to resolve the disputes could fuel instability ahead of the 2027 General Election.
