Organic farmers in Githunguri, Kiambu County, have unveiled a dedicated market exclusively for organic produce, aiming to boost farmers’ incomes while giving consumers confidence in genuine organic food.
The new market, supported by organizations under PELUM Kenya, will serve as a hub for storage, value addition, and the sale of produce sourced strictly from registered organic farmers.
PELUM Kenya representative George Boro noted that buyers have often struggled to differentiate organic products in ordinary markets. “With this market, buyers will have no doubts as it is strictly organic,” he said.
Farmers welcomed the initiative, saying their produce has previously been undervalued and unrecognized in conventional markets. They expressed optimism that the facility will improve sales, promote healthy living, and encourage more farmers to adopt sustainable practice
