Pepeta has strengthened its ties with Western Kenya’s cultural heritage after hosting a lively bullfighting tournament that pulled thousands of residents to Kakamega County.
The two-day festival expanded the betting firm’s grassroots engagement, following the momentum of its Iwake Fest football initiative earlier in the year.
Excitement swept through Kakamega as crowds filled the grounds, drums echoed across villages and supporters waved colourful placards while cheering on their favourite bulls. More than 10,000 people turned up, transforming the event into a major cultural celebration.
Bull owners shared personal stories about traditions passed down through generations, underscoring the deep pride the community holds for the sport. To many residents, bullfighting remains a symbol of identity, bravery and regional unity.
Pepeta said the tournament was part of its commitment to preserving Western Kenya’s cultural practices and creating spaces that bring communities together. The firm also became the first to offer betting odds on the event, adding extra thrill for spectators.
The tournament has since been hailed as one of the year’s most memorable cultural gatherings, with Pepeta pledging to continue supporting stakeholders to promote the sport and ensure both owners and fans benefit from the initiative.
