Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja dismissed claims that Juja MP George Koimburi was abducted. He insisted that Koimburi staged his own disappearance.
During a press briefing, IG Kanja revealed that investigators traced Koimburi’s movements from a church service to a hotel where he spent the night. He stated, “Our forensic analysis clearly contradicts the widely circulated video of the alleged crime scene. The evidence does not support an abduction scenario.” The police chief called the incident “political theatrics.”
Similarly, DCI boss Amin Mohamed supported Kanja’s findings. He confirmed the arrest of three suspects, including Juja CDF Chairperson, for allegedly orchestrating the staged abduction. He condemned the act, calling it “inconceivable that a sitting MP would fabricate such an incident, causing unnecessary fear and tension.”
Furthermore, investigators discovered that Koimburi traveled in his own vehicle, driven by an associate. They questioned how his allies knew exactly where to find him. However, his family blocked police from interrogating him at the hospital where he is receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders rejected the police findings. They demanded a parliamentary inquiry. In response, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula instructed the Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security to collaborate with the police. He stated, “We expect a detailed report on this matter to be presented before Parliament without delay.”
