President Ruto approves construction of first KMTC campus in Butere to boost healthcare training and local economy

President William Ruto has given the green light for the construction of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) campus in Butere, Kakamega County, marking a major step in expanding healthcare education in the region.

The project, which will be implemented through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), follows a proposal by Butere MP Tindi Mwale, who secured land for the institution from the county government.

Speaking during the announcement, MP Mwale said the new KMTC campus will complement the recently completed Butere Level Four Hospital by providing hands-on training for medical students while strengthening healthcare delivery in the sub-county.

“This is a milestone for our people. The new KMTC will work closely with Butere County Hospital to ensure students gain practical experience as they help improve local healthcare,” said Mwale.

President Ruto assured the residents that the national government will support the project to ensure its timely completion and sustainability.

“MP Tindi, you can now go ahead and build the facility, but if you encounter any challenges, I am here,” stated the President.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving access to medical training and expanding healthcare infrastructure nationwide, noting that the Butere campus will not only nurture future healthcare professionals but also create employment and stimulate the local economy.

Once completed, the KMTC Butere Campus will become the first medical training institution in the sub-county and is expected to admit its first group of students soon after completion.
