President Ruto honours Truphena Muthoni with ambassador role, Brazil trip and state medal after 72-hour tree feat

President William Ruto has rolled out national recognition for environmental activist Truphena Muthoni following her widely publicised 72-hour tree-hugging feat in Nyeri County.

The President hosted Muthoni at State House, Nairobi, on Monday, praising her endurance and commitment to environmental conservation and climate action. Ruto described the act as a powerful symbol that has helped elevate national and global conversations on environmental protection.

As part of the recognition, the Head of State appointed Muthoni an ambassador of the government’s 15 billion tree-planting campaign, citing her courage and leadership in championing conservation.

Ruto also awarded her the Head of State Commendation (HSC) medal for exemplary service to environmental stewardship.

In addition, the Kenya Wildlife Service and Kenya Tourism Board extended a fully sponsored holiday to Muthoni and her team, while the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry committed to facilitating her long-held dream of visiting Brazil to gain exposure to global conservation initiatives.
