President William Samoei Ruto has launched major development projects in Northern Kenya as he marked one year since his last visit to the region.
During a tour accompanied by Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki and other leaders, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating growth and improving livelihoods across the region.
At Garissa University, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Innovation Centre valued at Ksh.279 million. The project is a partnership between the Government of Kenya and the Safaricom Foundation and is expected to be completed by April next year.
The facility will feature modern lecture halls, ICT hubs and collaborative learning spaces aimed at strengthening research, technology and innovation among students.
The President also announced the allocation of Ksh.750 million for the construction of student hostels that will accommodate 1,700 learners. The hostels are expected to be completed within one year, easing accommodation challenges at the institution.
In addition, President Ruto inspected the ongoing construction of the Garissa runway and terminal, a Ksh.550 million project scheduled for completion in three months. He also toured Affordable Housing units nearing completion, which are expected to provide dignified and accessible homes for residents.
The projects collectively highlight the government’s focus on expanding education infrastructure, improving connectivity and opening up economic opportunities in Northern Kenya.
