At least seven families in Pumwani’s Rokongo area, Kamukunji, were left counting losses after a fire swept through their homes on Wednesday evening.
The blaze, which broke out at around 6:30 pm, quickly engulfed several houses, displacing dozens of residents. Fortunately, no lives were lost, though one victim, identified as Ali Kiragu, sustained a broken hand during the commotion. He was rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for treatment.
Nairobi City County firefighters responded swiftly, containing the flames before they could spread further. However, the affected families lost nearly all their belongings.
Community members have since launched efforts to provide emergency aid, temporary shelter, and essential supplies.
This is the second fire incident reported in Pumwani in just two days. On Tuesday, a similar blaze erupted in Shauri Moyo but was contained without casualties.
The frequent outbreaks have raised concern, with residents calling for improved fire safety measures in the densely populated area.
