The Democracy for the Citizens’ Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has rolled out a nationwide youth-focused political strategy designed to empower young leaders and position them at the heart of Kenya’s 2027 elections.
Speaking at the DCP headquarters in Nairobi on Wednesday, Party Youth Leader Wanjiku Thiga announced the launch of a Youth Training Manual, which she described as a “political bible” for young aspirants eager to shape the country’s leadership.
“The youth are ready to take matters into their own hands. We are the generation that refuses to be silenced unbought, unbowed, and unstoppable,” Thiga declared to an enthusiastic crowd of young delegates.
The event, attended by Gachagua and the party’s Deputy Leader Cleophas Malala, marked a key step in DCP’s mission to expand its reach and engage Kenya’s youth a demographic that accounts for over 70 percent of the country’s population.
According to Thiga, the initiative will see more than 300 young aspirants trained in leadership, communication, governance, and community mobilization. The party also plans to establish youth offices in all 47 counties, create university and college chapters, and mobilize at least three million youth votes ahead of the next General Election.
“The Youth Training Manual will help sharpen minds and build capacity for a new generation of leaders committed to service and integrity,” she noted.
Thiga also called on the party leadership to waive nomination fees for young aspirants, arguing that high financial barriers have long discouraged young people from seeking elective office.
Current statistics show that out of 330 Members of Parliament, only 52 are youth, while just 12 out of 1,450 MCAs are young women a disparity DCP says it is determined to change.
“Achieving the two-thirds gender rule is not a constitutional burden but a moral duty,” Thiga stressed. “We will ensure young women stand shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts in leadership.”
In his remarks, Gachagua lauded the youth wing’s energy and reaffirmed his party’s commitment to nurturing leadership rooted in discipline, patriotism, and development.
The DCP’s youth-focused strategy marks a new chapter in Kenya’s pre-election political scene, signalling a shift toward inclusive, ideas-driven politics powered by young voices.
