Ruiru MP Simon King’ara says rapid population growth is forcing NG-CDF to build a new school every year

Ruiru MP Simon King’ara says the constituency’s rapid population growth has put immense pressure on education facilities, forcing the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to build a new school every year.

Speaking during an event at St. George Primary School in Ruiru, King’ara said the latest project, Mutonya Primary School, is already up and running but still requires six more classrooms to meet growing demand.

He added that Manguo Primary School needs five additional classrooms, while the densely populated Mwiki area requires 30 with 15 already completed under the ongoing NG-CDF development plan.

“Ruiru’s population continues to expand faster than we can build schools. Every year, we must construct at least one new school to accommodate the rising number of learners,” said King’ara.

The MP appealed to factories and investors in Ruiru to support efforts to expand education infrastructure, noting that private sector participation is key to sustaining development in the fast-urbanising constituency.

According to King’ara, Ruiru now hosts over 600,000 residents, making it the most populous constituency in Central Kenya. He said education remains one of his top priorities as more families move into the area seeking opportunities.

King’ara also announced that the NG-CDF will soon issue more bursaries to Form One, Two, and Three students, having earlier prioritised Form Four candidates preparing for national exams.

He revealed that Ksh90 million has already been set aside for the 2026 bursary program and urged residents to continue supporting the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying collaborative efforts will ensure meaningful development in education and other sectors.

“We are committed to ensuring every child in Ruiru has access to quality education, regardless of their background. That is our long-term vision,” said King’ara.
