Ruto announces national infrastructure fund to end project stalls and cut Kenya’s reliance on foreign loans

President William Ruto has announced plans to establish a National Infrastructure Fund to finance key development projects locally and reduce Kenya’s dependence on external borrowing.

The fund will channel resources towards major projects including roads, dams, and power generation, with the aim of completing stalled works and driving sustainable growth.

Speaking during a church service at St. Mary’s AIPCA Church in Kathelwa, Igembe Central, Meru County, the President said the initiative will help plug financing gaps that have hindered project completion.

“For long, we have been building roads which end up stalling due to lack of funds. For Kenya to grow, we must do things differently,” said Ruto.

He added that discussions with Members of Parliament are underway to secure their support for the establishment of the fund.

Ruto said the initiative will enable the government to increase national power generation to 10,000 megawatts and fast-track long-delayed infrastructure works.

“In Meru alone, we need about Ksh40 billion for water projects, yet the same amount has been allocated to the entire country. We must up our game,” he said.

The President also took a swipe at the opposition, accusing them of promoting divisive politics at the expense of national development.

“Kenya was left behind by countries like Singapore because of bad politics. My government has done a lot in the last two years, but we can do more. Do not be lured into early campaigns by people who have no agenda,” he said.

Ruto dismissed political chants such as “Ruto must go” and “one term,” terming them empty rhetoric with no development value.

The Head of State further announced that Meru town will soon be elevated to city status, making it Kenya’s sixth city.

He revealed that the government will allocate Ksh7 billion to redesign the Nithi Bridge, which has been a safety hazard for nearly two decades.

“We want to straighten the Nithi Bridge so that it stops being a trap where citizens lose their lives and experience many accidents,” he said.

In addition, the President said Ksh2 billion has been set aside for road construction and rehabilitation across Meru County, alongside Ksh5 billion, jointly funded with the World Bank, for new bypasses and road upgrades within Meru town.

To support the county’s growth, Ruto announced that Ksh800 million will be spent on building 17 modern markets, Ksh1 billion on upgrading Meru Level Five Hospital, and a state lodge is expected to be completed by December.

“This is why we have allocated Ksh800 million for modern markets and Ksh1 billion for Meru Level Five Hospital. I have also instructed my officers to ensure the state lodge is ready by December,” he said.

  2. With havin so much content do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright violation? My website has a lot of unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it seems a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my permission. Do you know any ways to help stop content from being ripped off? I’d certainly appreciate it.

  3. Hope you don’t mind a small digression — it’s about shopping wisely

Just a few days ago I discovered a site called very useful shop.

    They share great tips like:
    – how to read product ingredients,
    – checking expiration dates properly,
    – not overpaying just for brand names.

    Clear, practical, no fluff.

Do you check ingredients when shopping too?
