Ruto appoints James Kibugu Wambu as new Kenyatta University Hospital board chair, rreplacing Kembi Gitura

President William Ruto has appointed James Kibugu Wambu as the new non-executive chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).

In a gazette notice dated August 29, the Head of State confirmed that Wambu will serve a three-year term beginning immediately.

The appointment follows the revocation of former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura’s tenure. Gitura had resigned earlier, citing political differences with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government, which he has openly opposed. His resignation came just eight months after he was appointed to the powerful board.

“I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint James Kibugu Wambu to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 29th August, 2025,” read the gazette notice.

Other Key Appointments

President Ruto also made a series of other parastatal appointments.

At the Central Bank of Kenya, he appointed Pius Ang’asa to serve as a board member for three years. At the Clinical Officers Council of Kenya, Joseph Choge was named non-executive chairperson for a similar term.

The council is responsible for regulating clinical officers, a vital component of Kenya’s healthcare workforce.

In addition, Ruto expanded the Panel of Experts on Compensation of Victims of Demonstrations and Public Protests. John Maina, Churchill Suba, and Daki Guyo were added to the team, with Guyo designated as joint secretary.

The President’s office noted that the changes were aimed at strengthening governance and oversight in key public institutions.
