President William Ruto has added momentum to the growing hype around the much-talked-about boxing clash between viral sensations Majembe and Mbavu the Destroyer, pledging Ksh1 million to each fighter ahead of their April 2026 bout.
The President made the pledge on Sunday during an interaction with Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, who briefed him on the fight that has captured national attention online.
Ruto also announced he would sponsor tickets for 2,000 fans to attend the fight, evenly split between supporters of the two boxers.
The bout, organised by comedian and media personality Oga Obinna, is scheduled for April 4, 2026, in Nairobi, with the official venue yet to be announced.
Several public figures have rallied behind the fighters, turning the contest into one of Kenya’s most anticipated amateur sporting events.
