Ruto proposes PAYE cut from 30% to 25% for workers earning up to Ksh50,000

President William Ruto has announced proposed tax cuts targeting low- and middle-income earners, with plans to reduce Pay As You Earn (PAYE) from 30 per cent to 25 per cent for Kenyans earning up to Ksh50,000.

Speaking on Wednesday during a meeting with UDA aspirants at State House, Nairobi, the President said the proposals would be submitted to Parliament for debate and approval.

Under the plan, Kenyans earning below Ksh30,000 would be exempted from income tax altogether, a move the Head of State said would ease the burden on ordinary workers.

Ruto noted that the proposals are informed by improved fiscal outcomes achieved since his administration took office in 2022.

If approved, a worker earning Ksh50,000 would save Ksh2,500 monthly in PAYE, raising take-home pay before statutory deductions.
