Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has accused government agencies of enabling corruption by delaying action on recommendations from the Auditor General (AG) and Controller of Budget (COB) reports. He warned that the inaction is giving corrupt officials space to loot public resources with impunity.
Speaking on Citizen TV, Amisi noted that while Parliament often faces criticism for lax oversight, timelines and processes make it difficult to handle the massive workload.
“Audits are conducted three months after the close of the financial year. With nearly 200 parastatals, how can Parliament realistically review all their audited accounts in such a short time?” he posed.
He added that even when parliamentary committees flag irregularities, agencies such as the EACC and DCI fail to follow through, leaving many cases unresolved. According to him, this disconnect has created a backlog spanning years, enabling unchecked looting.
Amisi urged Parliament to review legislation guiding implementation of AG and COB reports, insisting that stronger laws are needed to guarantee accountability.
His remarks come in the wake of an Auditor General’s special report revealing Kenyans were unlawfully overcharged Ksh2.1 billion through eCitizen fees, and a COB report exposing financial irregularities in Nairobi County.
