Section of Kiambu leaders endorse Natembeya’s 2027 presidential bid, pledge to rally Mt Kenya support behind him

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2027, earning early support from a section of Kiambu and Mt Kenya elders who have pledged to rally behind him.

Speaking at Ndura Stadium in Trans Nzoia County over the weekend, Natembeya said his bid seeks to unite the opposition and usher in a new era of integrity, inclusivity, and fairness in national leadership.

The elders, led by John Waweru, publicly endorsed Natembeya, describing him as a bold and visionary leader who speaks for ordinary Kenyans.

“You have entered the Mt Kenya region and shown willingness to work with us. We now want you to tour the mountain and win the hearts of our people,” said Waweru.

Natembeya, who also serves as the DAP-K deputy party leader, welcomed the endorsement, promising to champion a leadership model that focuses on job creation, fighting corruption, and equitable resource distribution.

“When we say Wantam, we do not say it because we hate the President. Ours is a quest for a better, fairer, and more prosperous Kenya,” he said.

The Trans Nzoia governor has in recent months stepped up political activity across western counties and parts of the Rift Valley, positioning himself as one of the emerging voices calling for a united opposition front ahead of the 2027 polls.

Natembeya lamented that every election cycle, leaders from the Western region declare interest in the presidency but end up accepting other government positions once negotiations begin.

“It’s time we go for the real seat the President’s seat. Too many of our leaders have failed to push the Luhya agenda to its rightful place,” Natembeya declared.

He added that his candidacy is not about political rivalry but about giving Kenyans a credible alternative leadership that prioritizes honesty, service, and unity.

The endorsement from Kiambu and Mt Kenya elders marks a potential shift in the country’s political alliances as the 2027 race begins to take shape.
