The Senate is set to forcibly summon Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki after he failed to appear before the County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) to respond to audit queries.
Drama unfolded on Tuesday after the governor reportedly left Parliament buildings moments before the scheduled session without notifying senators. Efforts by the sergeant-at-arms to locate him and his delegation were unsuccessful.
Governor Njuki was expected to answer questions on the use of county funds for the 2024/25 financial year, including about Ksh400 million in voided transactions and the failure to operationalise the Facilities Improvement Fund. Senators also raised concerns over unpaid suppliers and possible misuse of public funds from previous financial years.
CPAC chair Moses Kajwang criticised the move, terming it reckless and disrespectful to Parliament. The committee resolved to issue a summons, warning that failure to comply could attract legal action under Article 125 of the Constitution and the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act.
