Senator John Methu accuses Governor Wanga of political intolerance and hypocrisy over ODM threat to cut ties with Gachagua allies

Nyandarua Senator John Methu has hit back at Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga after she declared that the ODM party would not associate with allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking in response to Wanga’s remarks made during a press conference in Kisumu on Wednesday, October 22, Methu accused the governor of unfairly targeting Gachagua and dismissing the freedoms that Raila Odinga himself fought to protect.

“Gladys Wanga, you’ve mentioned Rigathi Gachagua more than the accused in your statement. But what caught my attention was your declaration that his allies cannot be your friends. I want to assume you meant your family, not your party,” Methu said.

He further reminded Wanga that freedom of association is a constitutional right and that no one can dictate who others choose to align with.

The senator also accused Wanga of allegedly orchestrating chaos against Gachagua during a national event. “Who would want a leader who can organize goons to attack Rigathi Gachagua in a solemn national function such as Raila’s sendoff? You can hate Riggy G all you want, Gladys, but he responds with love,” Methu added.

Governor Wanga had earlier drawn a firm line against any political alliance with Gachagua’s camp, arguing that those who mock Raila’s legacy cannot be considered friends of ODM. She also claimed that Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga acted as Gachagua’s spokesperson when making divisive remarks about Raila’s death.

“The principle is simple, the friend of your enemy is your enemy,” Wanga stated.
