Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has strongly condemned the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, terming the incident unacceptable and a threat to Kenya’s democratic values.
In a statement released on April 9, 2026, Thang’wa said the assault on the legislator in Kisumu was not only disturbing but also raised serious concerns about the safety of public officials and the direction of political engagement in the country.
He warned that acts of violence targeting leaders undermine the rule of law and weaken the democratic space, calling on authorities to act swiftly to bring those responsible to justice.
“What happened to Senator Osotsi is not just unfortunate, it is unacceptable. We cannot allow violence to creep into our politics,” Thang’wa stated.
The senator noted that preliminary reports and circulating CCTV footage suggest the attack may have been premeditated, raising questions about the motive behind the incident. He called for thorough, transparent, and impartial investigations to establish the truth and ensure accountability.
Thang’wa urged security agencies to move with speed and diligence in identifying the perpetrators, stressing that justice must be served without delay to restore public confidence in institutions.
He further emphasised that the safety of leaders is closely tied to the stability of the country, warning that any failure to address such incidents could embolden further acts of violence.
Beyond the immediate investigation, the Kiambu senator highlighted the broader implications of the attack, calling for a renewed commitment to constitutional rights, including freedom of movement, security, and political expression.
“No Kenyan, regardless of their political affiliation, should be subjected to violence or intimidation while engaging with citizens,” he said.
Thang’wa also called on political leaders across the divide to exercise restraint and promote tolerance, urging stakeholders to reject divisive rhetoric and uphold peaceful coexistence.
He stressed that differences in opinion must not degenerate into hostility, noting that leaders have a collective responsibility to foster unity and respect within the political space.
The senator concluded by extending his wishes for a swift recovery to Senator Osotsi, expressing solidarity with his family, colleagues, and constituents during the difficult period.
The attack on Osotsi has sparked widespread concern and condemnation across the country, with growing calls for decisive action to curb rising political intolerance and ensure the safety of all leaders.
