Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has criticized President William Ruto’s apology to Gen Zs, arguing that sincere apologies require action. He accused Ruto of hypocrisy, questioning why he sought forgiveness while punishing Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba.
During the National Prayer Breakfast on May 28, 2025, Ruto apologized to Gen Zs and Kenya’s neighbors, Tanzania and Uganda. He admitted mistakes and promised better relations. However, Thang’wa dismissed the apology, saying real change requires action.
“The best way to ask for forgiveness is to do the right thing—uphold the law, stop excessive taxation, and listen to the people,” Thang’wa stated. His remarks reflected frustration among Kenyans who felt Ruto’s apology lacked real accountability.
Thang’wa also condemned Ruto for punishing Orwoba while seeking forgiveness. He questioned why Ruto expected Gen Zs to forgive him but refused to extend the same courtesy to Orwoba, expelled from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“You ask Gen Zs to forgive you, yet you cannot forgive others. You cannot even forgive a young Kisii girl called Gloria Orwoba,” Thang’wa remarked. His statement highlighted concerns about fairness and selective justice within UDA.
His remarks comes a week after Senate speaker Amason Kingi declared the seat vacant following her expulsion from the United democratic Alliance party. (UDA)
Orwoba was removed from the seat over alleged disloyalty with UDA accusing her of aligning with former Interior CS Fred Matiangí. A gazette Notice dated May 21, 2025, confirm the move under Article 101(2) of the constitution.
