Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has publicly denied allegations that he participated in a consultative meeting with Kiambu MPs to nominate Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Andrew Karanja for the new cabinet.
In a post on his official X account, Thang’wa refuted claims made by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wah, who stated on September 3 that President William Ruto had asked Kiambu MPs to suggest a candidate for the Agriculture docket.
Thang’wa clarified, “As an MP representing Kiambu county as their senator, I want to clarify that I was not consulted in the selection of the new cabinet secretary from our county, nor was I invited to participate in the process.”
Thang’wa further explained that even if he had been consulted, he would not have endorsed the current CS due to a lack of familiarity with his track record.
Instead, he would have recommended well-known political figures from Kiambu, such as Moses Kuria, Kabogo, Waititu, Nyoro, Maara, Waikenda, Jungle, and Wakanyi.
He also mentioned that he would have preferred prominent figures like those proposed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), including Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi.
On September 3, Ichung’wah claimed during a political event that President Ruto had extensively consulted Mt. Kenya MPs about the new cabinet appointments.
He used this claim to criticize Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for seeking more appointments for the Mt. Kenya region. “When President Ruto was making his new Cabinet, he called us MPs from Kiambu and asked us to go and find someone for the docket of Agriculture,” Ichung’wah said.
