Speaker Amason Kingi approved the summoning of Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who is expected to appear before the National Security, Defence and Foreign Relations Committee chaired by Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo. The CS will be required to outline clear actions the government is taking to protect Kenyans abroad.
Nominated Senator Veronica Maina questioned why Kenya’s openness to foreign nationals — from traders to service providers — is not mirrored in neighbouring countries. Senator Beatrice Ogola echoed this, noting that Kenya respects the rights and freedoms of foreigners even in small businesses.
Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga called for regional unity and stronger frameworks that safeguard displaced or vulnerable citizens, while Nominated Senator Catherine Mumma urged investigations into how many Kenyans have died, been injured or lost property abroad.
She stressed that standing up for Kenyans overseas is a moral and national obligation, especially when citizens are targeted simply because of their nationality.
