The Social Health Authority (SHA) has confirmed that it has released Ksh3.4 billion to hospitals across the country, countering claims that some facilities are yet to receive funds.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 20, SHA clarified that the disbursement was made to cover inpatient care, mental health services, drug and substance abuse treatment, critical care, and surgeries.
“The Social Health Authority (SHA) has disbursed Ksh3.4 billion to health facilities nationwide for Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) claims for inpatient care, drugs and substances abuse cover, mental wellness, critical care, and surgeries,” the statement read.
The authority addressed circulating reports regarding Nyandiwa Level 4 Hospital, which had been listed online as among the facilities yet to be paid. SHA confirmed the hospital had already received Ksh19 million between January and June 2025 for inpatient long stays and maternity services.
“The Level 4 hospital has confirmed receipt of the funds. SHA remains committed to timely payments, accountability, and transparency,” the authority said.
In addition to the Ksh3.4 billion, SHA revealed that Ksh1.09 billion had been disbursed under the Primary Health Care Fund, while another Ksh1.7 billion is being processed for special treatments such as dialysis, oncology, and surgical claims.
The authority further announced that an updated list of disbursements will be published on its official website for public scrutiny.
Earlier in July, SHA Chief Executive Officer assured over 9,000 contracted healthcare facilities that verified claims under both the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) and Primary Health Care (PHC) would be processed and disbursed in two phases, on July 14 and July 21.
