SHA strikes new deal with health providers to secure Universal care, tighten anti-fraud measures

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has unveiled a fresh partnership with healthcare providers to strengthen service delivery and safeguard the future of universal health coverage (UHC) in Kenya.

During a high-level meeting on Tuesday, chaired by SHA Chairperson Dr. Abdi Mohamed, officials from the Kenya Healthcare Federation (KHF) and the Kenya Association of Private Hospitals (KAPH) agreed on a raft of measures to address systemic challenges in the sector.

According to a statement from SHA, the discussions focused on strengthening partnerships, streamlining payments, and ensuring sustainable healthcare financing.

Among the resolutions reached was a commitment to sustain the public officers’ payment scheme, enhance dialogue between stakeholders, and develop responsive mechanisms to address challenges in real time.

In addition, the Authority pledged to continue working closely with federations to resolve provider-specific concerns while upholding contracts with hospitals and health facilities.

A major highlight was the announcement of a joint anti-fraud initiative, to be rolled out with providers. The program, SHA said, will build on existing frameworks already in place through the Ministry of Health and insurance companies.

“Recognizing the crucial role that healthcare providers play in this effort, the initiative will leverage the existing anti-fraud framework,” SHA noted.

Dr. Mohamed underscored the importance of the partnership, saying the move would help build a sustainable, transparent system that guarantees uninterrupted care.

“By working hand-in-hand, SHA and healthcare providers are building a resilient, responsive, and equitable healthcare system that serves all Kenyans without interruption,” he said.

The renewed collaboration comes at a time when Kenya is pushing forward with its UHC agenda, a central pillar of national healthcare reform.
