The late Nairobi lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting along Magadi Road, was reportedly battling severe financial and legal challenges before his death.
Investigations have revealed that Mbobu had accumulated huge debts, defaulted on multiple loans, and was blacklisted by local banks. At one point, he borrowed Ksh10 million from a shylock but later defaulted, with repayments ballooning to Ksh72 million.
Court documents also show that in 2023, he was ordered to repay Ksh97 million he withheld from a land deal. Several clients had also sued him over unreleased funds, while others pursued debts running into tens of millions.
Mbobu’s mounting troubles, coupled with the violent circumstances of his death, have raised questions about whether his financial woes may have played a role in the tragedy.
