Police in Thika, have confiscated more than 80 suspected stolen mobile phones, gas cylinders, welding machines, and other assorted items from a shop in Kiganjo estate.
Acting on a tip-off from the public, Thika West Sub-County police commander Lawrence Muchangi led officers in raiding the shop, which was allegedly stocking stolen goods.
The operation resulted in the recovery of 37 smartphones and 47 feature phones, along with other items believed to have been stolen. A female suspect found at the shop was arrested and is assisting with investigations into a network of tech-savvy criminals responsible for muggings and robberies in the area.
Muchangi noted a rise in electronic gadget thefts in the busy town, with criminals targeting unsuspecting phone users taking selfies, speaking on the phone along walkways, or using their gadgets in dark areas.
He urged victims to identify their phones among the seized items and assured the public that detectives are committed to ending the crime wave.
Muchangi also warned residents to be cautious when purchasing second-hand phones and electronics to avoid legal trouble.
One victim, Amos Okulu, a student at Thika Technical Training Institute, has already identified his stolen phone. He recounted that he and his friends were attacked and injured while taking a selfie in town.
