TSC deregisters 15 teachers, warns schools against hiring them

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deregistered 15 teachers over disciplinary issues, barring them from ever teaching in public or private institutions.

In a gazette notice dated September 19, 2025, TSC Chief Executive Officer Eveleen Mitei said the teachers had been struck off the register under Section 30 (1)(e) of the TSC Act (Cap. 212).

She warned that any school employing the deregistered teachers would face a fine of at least Ksh100,000, or imprisonment for up to two years for the school head, or both.

“The Commission wishes to notify the public that the persons named in the schedule below have been removed from the Register of Teachers pursuant to Section 30 (2) of the TSC Act,” Mitei stated.

She added that deregistration is final unless expressly lifted by the Commission.

TSC Director of Legal, Labour and Industrial Relations, Cavin Anyuor, told the Senate Education Committee that since January 2024, the Commission has received 111 cases of teachers accused of misconduct, including sexual relations with learners and molestation. Out of these, 69 have been dismissed and deregistered.

Over the past five years, the Commission has deregistered 470 teachers for various offences.
