Two workers have died and another is fighting for his life after a water tank collapsed in Juja, Kiambu County.
The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday at the Pulp and Paper Company, where five employees were repairing the tank. According to Juja Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Daniel Ndege, the structure made of iron sheets and supported by concrete pillars, gave way, trapping three workers beneath.
Two were pronounced dead at the scene, while the survivor was rushed to Naindu Hospital in Makongeni, Thika, in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations suggest the supporting pillars had weakened. Kiambu County Government inspectors have since launched a probe into the cause of the accident and the structural integrity of other buildings in the subcounty.
Police reports confirmed that the tank’s pillar supports failed, leading to the collapse. However, journalists were denied access to the site after the factory’s management declined to speak, saying they required more time before issuing a statement.
