Wamuchomba challenges Ruto’s 15,000 housing units in Kiambu, cites stalled projects and broken promises

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has cast doubt on President William Ruto’s ambitious pledge to deliver 15,000 housing units in Kiambu County, warning that many past government promises have stalled before completion.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Daybreak program, Wamuchomba said the government’s track record in Kiambu raises credibility questions. She pointed to incomplete markets, roads, and an aggregation center in her constituency as examples of projects that started with fanfare but were abandoned midway.

“The President is very popular and experienced at making promises with big figures. But many of those commitments have not materialized,” she remarked. “When I hear him talk about 15,000 housing units in a month, I laugh. We have seen this before.”

Wamuchomba cited a market in Githunguri launched by President Ruto, where construction stopped soon after the groundbreaking. “The contractor left the day he did, and to date, the foundation stone remains untouched,” she added.

President Ruto has pledged to invest Ksh30 billion in housing and Ksh4.5 billion in 30 modern markets across Kiambu. However, Wamuchomba argued that the government should prioritise finishing incomplete projects before announcing new ones.

She further criticized the growing trend of key policy matters being handled at State House rather than in Parliament, echoing sentiments from other critics, including impeached former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, who accused Ruto of manipulating legislators with financial incentives.

As debate intensifies over the housing agenda, questions remain on whether the President’s promises in Kiambu will translate into tangible projects or remain symbolic groundbreakings.
