Farmers, agricultural experts and development partners gathered at the Waruhiu Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) in Kiambu County for the start of the annual Farmers’ Field Day, an event aimed at promoting agricultural innovation, knowledge sharing and stronger partnerships within the farming sector.
The two-day event attracted a wide range of stakeholders from across the county, including farmers, agribusiness exhibitors and agricultural extension officers who came together to showcase modern farming techniques, technologies and best practices designed to improve productivity.
The official opening was presided over by Dr. Ji Gang Kim, Director of the Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture (KOPIA), who attended the event as the chief guest. His presence highlighted the growing collaboration between local agricultural institutions and international partners working to support farmers through research, innovation and training.
Organised by the Kiambu County Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the Farmers’ Field Day provides a platform where farmers can interact directly with experts, learn about new farming methods and explore solutions that can help address challenges affecting agricultural production.
Throughout the day, participants toured various demonstration plots and exhibition stands where different organisations and agribusiness companies displayed improved farming technologies, crop varieties, livestock management practices and agricultural equipment.
County officials noted that the event is part of broader efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector in Kiambu by equipping farmers with practical knowledge and exposing them to innovations that can increase yields and improve food security.
Farmers attending the field day also had an opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with fellow producers, agricultural specialists and development partners. The interactions provided a valuable learning experience, especially for small-scale farmers looking to adopt modern farming techniques and improve their farm output.
Speaking during the opening session, organisers praised the strong turnout by farmers and exhibitors, noting that their enthusiasm reflects the importance of agriculture as a key economic activity in the county.
The event also featured several exhibitions showcasing products and services that support farming, including agricultural inputs, irrigation solutions and climate-smart technologies designed to help farmers adapt to changing weather patterns.
Organisers encouraged more farmers to attend the second day of the event, noting that there are still several demonstrations, exhibitions and learning opportunities lined up for participants.
The annual Farmers’ Field Day at Waruhiu ATC continues to serve as an important forum for empowering farmers with knowledge, strengthening partnerships and promoting innovations that can help transform agriculture in Kiambu County and beyond.
