Youth begin digital training at Ndumberi hub

Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka has highlighted progress in a digital skills training programme currently underway at the Ndumberi Jitume Hub, where young people from the constituency are undertaking basic computer training.

The training marks the first stage of a broader learning pathway designed to equip participants with essential digital skills before advancing to more specialised technology-based courses.

According to the MP, the current cohort is undergoing foundational computer literacy lessons aimed at preparing them for more advanced digital opportunities that are increasingly shaping today’s job market.

Once the trainees complete the initial stage, they are expected to proceed to specialised courses including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Assistance, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Academic Writing, among other emerging digital fields.

Waithaka noted that such programmes are crucial in preparing young people to take advantage of opportunities in the digital economy, where online work, remote employment and digital entrepreneurship are becoming increasingly common.

He said the training is intended to give youth practical skills that can help them secure employment or generate income through digital platforms.

The legislator emphasised that access to technology and digital knowledge is becoming an essential requirement for young people seeking to compete in modern workplaces and global online markets.

Through the training, participants are being introduced to the basic tools and systems used in digital workspaces, allowing them to gradually build confidence and competence before progressing to more specialised areas of study.

Waithaka said empowering youth with such knowledge is an important step in addressing unemployment by opening new pathways for economic participation.

He added that the digital space presents numerous opportunities for innovation, freelancing and business creation, especially for young people willing to learn and adapt to technological changes.

Beyond employment, the MP encouraged participants to view digital skills as a gateway to entrepreneurship, noting that many successful businesses today operate online or rely heavily on technology.

The Ndumberi Jitume Hub is among digital learning centres established to expand access to technology training and internet-enabled opportunities, particularly for young people seeking to develop modern workplace skills.

Waithaka expressed optimism that the programme will help equip youth in Kiambu Town with practical knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital environment.

He reiterated the importance of investing in youth skills development, saying initiatives that combine technology, education and entrepreneurship will play a key role in shaping the future of the constituency’s young population.
