President William Ruto has ordered residents of violence-hit areas in Trans Mara, Narok County, to immediately surrender all illegally held firearms as the government moves to restore security.
The directive follows deadly clashes in Angata Barikoi and surrounding areas that left at least seven people dead and hundreds displaced. Authorities have since declared 14 areas in Trans Mara West and South as security-disturbed and dangerous.
Police say six suspects linked to the violence, including a Member of County Assembly from Lolgorian, have been arrested. Security agencies are now pursuing those believed to be financing and orchestrating the unrest.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat noted that calm has returned to parts of the region, but a dusk-to-dawn curfew remains in force. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has approved a 30-day security operation to stabilise the area.
