Two arrested with stolen motorcycles in Juja

Police in Juja Sub-County have arrested two suspects following the recovery of a suspected stolen motorcycle and several motorcycle parts believed to have been stripped from stolen bikes in Nyacaba, Witeithie Ward.

The suspects, identified as Michael Mbuthia Macharia and Lucas Maina Wanjiku, were arrested during a police operation conducted in Milimani Village within Nyacaba Sub-Location. Authorities say the duo was found in possession of a motorcycle suspected to have been stolen, as well as numerous motorcycle components believed to be linked to theft cases reported in different areas.

The recovery has sparked interest among motorcycle owners, with several individuals reportedly identifying some of the recovered parts as belonging to motorcycles that had previously been stolen. Police believe the discoveries could help solve a number of pending theft cases and assist investigators in tracing a wider criminal network involved in motorcycle theft and dismantling.

Among the motorcycles recovered was one that had reportedly been stolen in Gatunyu, Gatanga Constituency, while other parts were linked to a motorcycle reported stolen along Kenyatta Road in Juja. Investigators are now working to establish how the motorcycles ended up at the location and whether more suspects could be involved.

Motorcycle theft has remained a major concern for boda boda operators and owners across Kiambu and neighbouring counties, with criminals often targeting motorcycles before dismantling them and selling the parts separately. The practice has caused significant losses to operators who depend on the motorcycles as their primary source of income.

Police say the latest recovery is a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat the growing problem. Detectives are currently analysing the recovered items and gathering statements from victims who have come forward to identify their property.

The two suspects are being held at Witeithie Police Station as investigations continue. Authorities have indicated that further arrests could be made depending on the findings of the ongoing probe.

Police have also appealed to members of the public who may have recently lost motorcycles or motorcycle parts to visit the station and assist in identifying the recovered items. Investigators believe additional victims may not yet be aware that some of their stolen property has been recovered.

The operation underscores continued efforts by security agencies to crack down on criminal groups involved in motorcycle theft and trafficking of stolen spare parts. Residents have welcomed the arrests and expressed hope that the investigation will help reduce the increasing cases of motorcycle-related theft in the region.
