Kiambu County has stepped up efforts to combat cervical cancer by offering free screening services and expanding HPV vaccination during Cervical Cancer Awareness Month.
The County Department of Health Services, working with community health workers, deployed a mobile clinic to several shopping centres across Kiambu between January 5 and January 9, providing residents with free cervical cancer screening. The outreach covered Kiambu Town, Riabai, Ndumberi and Ting’ang’a.
Health officials said the programme will continue this week at Ngecha Chief’s Camp, Cornerstone Church in Kiriri and Goshen Church in Karajeet, alongside countywide awareness activities running throughout January.
County Mobile Clinic Coordinator Martha Mburu said the initiative focuses on early detection to improve treatment outcomes. The mobile clinic also offers screening for diabetes, hypertension and tuberculosis, HPV vaccination, nutritional services and treatment of minor illnesses at no cost.
County health records show that more than 2,000 women were screened for cervical cancer in 2025, with early detection helping prevent progression to advanced stages. Health officials have urged women aged 25 to 49 years and parents of eligible girls to take advantage of the free services.
