Learners at Riabai Primary School are set to benefit from improved learning conditions following ongoing renovations aimed at transforming the school into a modern and dignified institution.
The project, spearheaded by Kiambu Town MP Machua Waithaka, has seen significant milestones achieved, with more upgrades currently underway to enhance both infrastructure and the overall learning environment.
Among the completed works is the construction of a perimeter wall and installation of a modern gate, which have significantly improved security at the school. A new ablution block has also been put in place, addressing sanitation needs for learners and staff.
In addition, the school has benefited from the establishment of a fully equipped Junior Secondary School (JSS) laboratory, a key facility expected to support the Competency-Based Curriculum and enhance practical learning for students.
The latest phase of development involves a comprehensive renovation of classrooms. Ongoing works include installation of new windows and doors, tiling of floors, and general refurbishment aimed at creating a clean and conducive learning environment.
The school compound is also being upgraded through cabro paving and landscaping, improving accessibility and giving the institution a more organised and modern appearance.
To address energy challenges, the school has been connected to a solar power system. The move is expected to reduce electricity costs while ensuring a reliable and sustainable source of energy for daily school operations.
Speaking on the progress, the MP noted that the initiative is part of a broader effort to improve education standards across Kiambu Town. He emphasised the importance of providing a safe and inspiring environment where learners can thrive.
“Our focus is to ensure that every child learns in a clean, safe and well-equipped environment that supports their growth and development,” he said.
Parents and residents have welcomed the ongoing improvements, expressing optimism that better infrastructure will contribute to improved academic performance and student wellbeing.
Education stakeholders have also noted that such investments are crucial in restoring dignity in public schools and supporting quality learning.
Once complete, the renovation project is expected to significantly uplift the status of Riabai Primary School, making it a model institution within the area.
