Juja Municipal Board begins three-day training to strengthen governance

The Juja Municipal Board has launched a three-day capacity-building training programme aimed at strengthening governance, leadership and oversight within the municipality as it works to improve service delivery and promote sustainable urban development.

The training brings together board members for intensive sessions designed to enhance their understanding of effective governance, citizen engagement and accountability in public service. The opening day focused on governance and leadership, with participants receiving practical insights on inclusive leadership and public participation from Jacinta Michuki, Director of Tehilla Coaching Ltd.

Additional sessions scheduled during the programme will cover key areas including project management, monitoring and evaluation, municipal partnerships, private sector engagement, revenue mobilisation, transparency and accountability, physical and land use planning, as well as human resource management.

The initiative is being led by Juja Municipal Board Chairperson Prof. Paul Gachanja and Municipal Manager Mr Joseph Muraya, who also serves as the board’s secretary. The leadership emphasised that the training is critical in equipping board members with the skills required to provide effective oversight and guide development initiatives within the municipality.

County officials noted that the programme is part of broader efforts by the Kiambu County Government to strengthen institutions, improve service delivery and ensure sustainable growth in urban centres across the county.
