Mau Mau veteran Kiambati wa Njora, regarded as the last surviving general of the armed struggle against British colonial rule, has died aged 106.
Family members said Kiambati passed away on Tuesday at his home in Ngorika, Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, after a long life marked by sacrifice and service to the country. His son, Maina Kiambati, said the veteran died of old age.
The family said his body was moved to Umash Funeral Home in Nakuru as funeral arrangements begin.
Kiambati was among the Mau Mau commanders whose operations were largely concentrated in Nyandarua during the independence struggle. In later years, he spoke openly about the challenges facing freedom fighters, calling for recognition, dignity and improved support for surviving veterans.
