Kindiki tells ODM to forget DP seat, insists he is staying put until 2027 elections

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed claims by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) that it could target his seat in future political negotiations.

Speaking on Sunday in Kariene town, Central Imenti Constituency in Meru County, Kindiki told residents that he will not relinquish the deputy presidency ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Deputy President described the claims as political rhetoric that should not cause anxiety among his supporters, insisting that his position in government remains secure.

“I am the Deputy President and I am not going anywhere. There is no cause for alarm,” Kindiki said, adding that he cannot be intimidated by shifting political statements.

His remarks follow recent comments by ODM leaders indicating that while the party holds no personal differences with him, the option of pursuing the deputy presidency in future negotiations remains open.

Kindiki said leadership should be measured by delivery and performance rather than constant political debate. He reaffirmed his loyalty to President William Ruto and pledged to support his second-term bid.

He further noted that the overwhelming support received in his home region during the 2022 elections strengthened the Kenya Kwanza administration and contributed to its national victory.

While hinting at future political ambitions, Kindiki maintained that his immediate focus is serving Kenyans and fulfilling his current mandate.
