Nicholas Julius Macharia has been sentenced to death after a court found him guilty of the defilement and murder of seven-year-old Tamara Blessing Kabura in Nyeri County.
The tragic case shocked residents after the young girl was reported missing for several days. The search intensified as family members and community members appealed for information about her whereabouts.
A breakthrough came after CCTV footage captured Tamara walking alongside Macharia, who was known locally as a porter. The footage placed him among the last people seen with the child before her disappearance.
Police later arrested Macharia and launched investigations that led officers to his house in Withemere slums. It was there that detectives made the grim discovery of the child’s body buried in a shallow grave beneath his bed.
The case sparked outrage and grief within the community, with residents calling for swift justice.
In delivering the sentence, the court found that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, leading to the death penalty.
The ruling marks the conclusion of a painful chapter for Tamara’s family and the Nyeri community, who had been closely following the case since her disappearance.
