Senior Counsel Charles Kanjama has pledged to uphold the rule of law and provide steady leadership after being elected President of the Law Society of Kenya.
In a statement issued following his victory on Thursday, Kanjama said the outcome reflected the clear will of the Society’s membership and marked a renewed commitment to accountable and disciplined leadership within the legal profession.
“Today, the Law Society of Kenya has spoken clearly, firmly, and in numbers that leave no doubt about the direction it has chosen,” he said.
Kanjama garnered 3,728 votes in a tightly contested race, beating his closest challenger Peter Wanyama, who secured 2,616 votes. Current LSK Vice President Mwaura Kabata finished third with 2,086 votes.
He is set to take over from outgoing President Faith Odhiambo, who congratulated him on what she described as a resounding victory.
Kanjama said the results sent a strong message that the voice of members cannot be swayed by undue influence and must always be respected. He pledged to translate his campaign promises into a clear governance framework before formally assuming office in March.
“I look forward to working closely with the incoming Council to build a united and formidable leadership that will protect the membership and defend the rule of law,” he stated.
He also thanked his campaign team and advocates across the country who turned out to vote, describing the mandate as unequivocal.
The election attracted significant attention within the legal fraternity, with advocates keenly watching the leadership transition at a time when constitutionalism and governance remain key national conversations.
