Over 400 households from Ngecha, Limuru, have finally received their long-awaited title deeds after more than three decades of waiting. This marks the end of years of uncertainty and anxiety over the land they purchased from the Mwanamukia Land Scheme.
The issuance of the title deeds was the result of a comprehensive verification process carried out by the Kiambu County government, in collaboration with the National Land Commission and the Office of the Land Registrar. This process, which concluded in June 2024, involved resolving disputes between the land vendor and buyers, ensuring that rightful ownership was established
Governor Kimani Wamatangi expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the county’s commitment to securing land ownership for its residents. “This momentous occasion demonstrates our dedication to providing peace of mind and security for our people,” he stated.The governor also said his administration will assist those with land but lack financial capabilities to obtain title deeds by paying the required fees.
For many residents, the receipt of the title deeds is a dream come true. Sarah and Samson Kamau, two of the recipients, shared their joy and relief. “We were very worried because most of us are growing old. I thought we would never get the title deeds. It has been 30 years since we bought the land. You can imagine waiting for all that period?” Sarah remarked.
The title deeds not only provide legal ownership but also open up new opportunities for development and investment in the Ngecha community. With the security of land ownership, residents can now confidently invest in their properties and plan for their future.
