A family is demanding answers after a long-time employee of Bata Kenya, Joshua Muthoka, 49, tragically passed away at the company’s factory clinic on Saturday, October 26th.
Muthoka, a skilled shoemaker with nearly three decades of service at Bata, had reportedly complained of severe chest pains the day before his death. Despite his deteriorating health, he was allegedly denied a day off and forced to report to work.
When his condition worsened, Muthoka was compelled to crawl to the on-site clinic, only to find it unattended. His colleagues, deeply distressed, watched helplessly as he succumbed to the pain. His body was subsequently taken to the Tigoni Level IV Hospital mortuary.
The post-mortem examination, while inconclusive, has prompted further investigations, including additional tests on vital organs. The family of the deceased, particularly his widow, Christine Wayua, is seeking justice and transparency.
“My life has been shattered. He was our breadwinner,” Wayua lamented. “We want to know what killed him or who killed him. We want him to get justice even if he is dead.”
The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death.
