The Social Health Authority (SHA) has urged employees across the country to confirm that their monthly health insurance deductions are being remitted by employers as required by law.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, March 12, the Authority reminded employers of their legal responsibility to deduct and submit workers’ health contributions on time to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare services.
According to SHA, employers are required to remit the deductions on or before the ninth day of the following month after salaries have been paid.
The Authority cautioned that delays or failure to remit the contributions could affect employees’ ability to access medical services under the national health scheme.
“SHA reminds all employers of their legal obligation to deduct and remit employee contributions on or before the ninth day of the following month to ensure continued access to services,” the Authority said in the notice.
At the same time, employees have been encouraged to regularly check their contribution status to ensure that the deductions reflected on their payslips have been received and recorded by the Authority.
SHA advised workers to remain vigilant and verify their membership records to avoid situations where contributions are deducted but not submitted by employers.
To make the process easier, the Authority outlined several platforms that employees can use to confirm their contribution status.
Workers can log into the Afyayangu online portal, access their records through the Afyayangu mobile application, or dial *147# on their mobile phones to check whether their contributions have been successfully remitted.
In addition, employees who require assistance or clarification can contact the Authority through the official SHA eligibility email.
The Authority further advised workers to immediately report any cases where their deductions have not been remitted or updated in their records.
Such complaints should be submitted through SHA’s customer service channels to allow the Authority to follow up with the relevant employers and ensure compliance.
SHA emphasized that timely remittance of contributions is critical in maintaining access to healthcare services under the national scheme.
The Authority has been implementing measures to strengthen accountability and transparency in the management of health insurance contributions as the country continues to roll out reforms in the healthcare financing system.
Workers have therefore been encouraged to actively monitor their records and report any irregularities to ensure their healthcare coverage remains active.
