EACC Arrests Kiambu Land Official in Ksh.1.3 Billion Fraud Case

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a Kiambu-based Lands Registrar in connection with a massive land fraud scheme involving the illegal transfer of 667 acres of public land belonging to the Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) in Kitale.

The land, valued at over Ksh.1.3 billion, was allegedly transferred through a complex web of fraudulent transactions orchestrated by the suspect, identified as Benson Limo. Limo, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the scheme, was arrested on Thursday during a coordinated raid on his residences in Nairobi West and Kapenguria.

During the operation, EACC officers seized a  collection  of incriminating evidence, including volumes of official land transaction documents, blank certificates of title, green cards, processed title deeds, and stamps used to forge legal documents.

Limo is just one of eight individuals under investigation by the EACC in connection with the fraudulent land dealings. The commission has also identified 41 other Land Registrars across the country who are suspected of engaging in corrupt practices, such as transferring government land, colluding with fraudsters, facilitating tax evasion, and accumulating unexplained wealth.

EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities involving land officials. “The Commission encourages members of the public with information regarding fraudulent dealings by any Land Registrar or other official to share it with the Commission for processing and action,” Ngumbi said. “This will strengthen the ongoing interventions to mitigate the challenge of corruption and enhance service delivery in land administration.”
