Kikuyu Town Member of County Assembly Kamau James Boro has moved to reassure traders at Dagoretti Market following concerns over the stalled construction project, which has remained incomplete for the past eight months.
The MCA, who visited the market to engage traders, acknowledged frustrations among business owners after the contractor abandoned the site, bringing construction works to a halt and leaving traders operating under uncertain conditions.
Speaking during the consultative meeting, Boro outlined a series of steps the county government is taking to revive the project and ensure its completion.
He revealed that the Directorate of Trade and Public Works is set to re-advertise the project later this week, opening the process for the identification of a new contractor to take over the works.
According to the MCA, the move follows a formal request by the initial contractor to have the contract terminated, effectively paving the way for the county to initiate a fresh procurement process.
“The Directorate will be advertising the market afresh on Thursday this week to ensure that the project resumes as soon as possible,” Boro told traders.
In addition, he confirmed that the Governor is expected to meet with selected representatives from the market to directly address the concerns raised by traders and provide further clarity on the way forward.
“The Governor will be meeting seven representatives of the market to listen to their issues and agree on how to move forward with the project,” he added.
Traders at Dagoretti Market have expressed growing concern over the delay, noting that the incomplete project has affected their businesses and disrupted normal operations.
Many have been operating in temporary or less suitable conditions since construction stalled, raising questions about timelines and accountability.
However, Boro assured them that the county government remains committed to completing the project, describing the market as a key development initiative aimed at improving working conditions for traders and boosting local economic activity.
He emphasised that the completion of the market remains a top priority, urging traders to remain patient as the procurement process is undertaken.
The planned re-advertisement and stakeholder engagement now signal renewed efforts by the county to resolve the impasse and restore confidence among traders who have been waiting for the project’s completion.
If successfully implemented, the restart of the works is expected to bring relief to traders and contribute to improved business operations within the area.
