Kiambu County has issued a fresh reminder to property owners that the ongoing land rates waiver programme will come to an end on May 31, 2026, urging residents to take advantage of the window to clear their outstanding principal amounts.
In a notice released by the Department of Finance and Economic Planning, the county government emphasised that the waiver offers a critical opportunity for landowners to settle their dues without incurring penalties or interest charges.
Officials warned that once the deadline lapses, normal charges will resume, potentially increasing the financial burden on defaulters. As such, property owners have been encouraged to act promptly and avoid last-minute rushes.
“This is an opportunity for residents to regularise their accounts by paying the principal amount before penalties are reinstated,” the department said in its communication.
The county has outlined multiple payment options to make the process convenient for residents. Property owners can make payments through the county paybill number 4162022, using their invoice number as the account reference. Alternatively, payments can be made directly to the county’s Cooperative Bank account.
The waiver programme is part of a broader strategy by the county government to enhance revenue collection while easing the burden on residents who may have accumulated arrears over time. By allowing landowners to clear the principal without additional charges, the county aims to encourage compliance and improve service delivery.
Revenue from land rates plays a crucial role in funding key development projects across the county, including infrastructure, healthcare and other public services. County officials have reiterated that timely payment of land rates is essential in supporting these initiatives and ensuring sustainable development.
Residents have welcomed the waiver, with many saying it provides a much-needed relief amid the current economic challenges. However, some have called for increased awareness to ensure that more property owners take advantage of the programme before it expires.
As the deadline approaches, the county government continues to urge all landowners with outstanding balances to settle their accounts in good time. Officials have assured residents that the payment systems are fully operational and accessible.
With just weeks remaining, the message from Kiambu County is clear: take advantage of the waiver now or risk paying more once penalties are reinstated.
