Kiambu gives farm inputs to Muguga farmers

The Kiambu County Government has stepped up efforts to strengthen agriculture and improve livelihoods after distributing farm inputs to farmers in Muguga Ward, Kabete Sub-county.

The initiative, led by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, is part of a broader strategy aimed at boosting food production, creating employment and empowering local communities through farming.

County officials said the programme targets small-scale farmers who form the backbone of Kiambu’s agricultural sector. By providing essential inputs, the county hopes to enhance productivity and support farmers in maximising yields.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, county representatives emphasised that agriculture remains central to Kiambu’s economic growth. They noted that investing in farming not only ensures food security but also opens up opportunities for income generation across households.

“As a county, we recognise that agriculture is the backbone of our growth. Supporting our farmers is key to building stronger and more resilient communities,” one official said.

Farmers in Muguga welcomed the move, describing it as timely support that will help them prepare for the planting season. Many noted that access to quality farm inputs has been a major challenge, often limiting their ability to produce enough food or earn sustainable incomes.

The county government encouraged beneficiaries to make full use of the inputs by applying proper farming practices and maintaining consistency in their efforts. Officials said the success of the initiative will largely depend on how farmers utilise the support provided.

Residents were also assured of continued engagement and support from the county administration, with leaders pledging to walk alongside farmers in improving agricultural outcomes.

The distribution aligns with Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s agenda to revitalise agriculture and strengthen local economies. The county has in recent months rolled out similar programmes across various wards, targeting both crop and livestock farmers.

Stakeholders in the agriculture sector have lauded the initiative, noting that empowering farmers at the grassroots level is critical in driving long-term development. They added that such interventions can significantly contribute to reducing unemployment and enhancing food security.

As planting begins, farmers in Muguga are now expected to put the inputs to use, with hopes of achieving better harvests in the coming months.

The programme reflects a growing focus on practical solutions aimed at transforming agriculture from subsistence to a more productive and sustainable sector in Kiambu County.
